Eine düstere Erzählung von Hexerei und Mystik

Nachdem ihre Mutter wegen Hexerei verbrannt wurde, ergreifen Margit (Björk) und ihre ältere Schwester Katla im mittelalterlichen Island die Flucht. Die Schwestern finden Unterschlupf bei Johan und seinem verärgerten kleinen Sohn Jonas. Doch Katlas aufkeimende Zauberei überfordert die kleine Familie. In dieser schwarzweißen, mittelalterlichen Fabel gab Björk ihr schillerndes Filmdebüt als sensible Hexe. Die Regisseurin Nietzchka Keene fängt die surrealen Landschaften Islands auf 35mm-Film ein und schafft eine feministische Neuinterpretation des Grimm’schen Märchens.
