Marty, élève de sixième année, et sa famille tentent d'aider l'ancien propriétaire de Shiloh, Judd Travers, à se racheter après un accident de camion presque fatal. Marty et sa famille donnent à Judd le bénéfice du doute, croyant qu'il peut changer ses mauvaises voies, mais le reste de la communauté est convaincue que Judd ne pourra jamais changer. Espérant sauver les autres chiens de Judd comme il a sauvé Shiloh, Marty commence à aider Judd à prendre soin des animaux. Cependant, lorsque Judd est soupçonné d'avoir assassiné un homme qui a disparu, Marty craint de se mettre, ainsi que Shiloh, dans une situation dangereuse.
