Nemulțumită de viața de trubadur, Max visează să devină cavaler. Max și unchiul Budrick călătoresc către Măisăfie, orașul natal al lui Budrick, dar când ajung, lucrurile nu sunt cum și le amintește el. În Măisăfie, îl întâlnesc pe Kevyn și află că regele Conrad a dispărut, iar regele Horificus, fratele lui mai mic, a preluat tronul și a instituit reguli stricte și ridicole. Conversația lor e întreruptă când Max vede doi orfani urmăriți de gărzile regale. Max îi înfruntă pe rege și gărzile sale, salvându-i pe cei doi orfani - Millie și Simon. Cu toate acestea, decizia o pune în pericol atunci când regele o condamnă la moarte. Unchiul Budrick se sacrifică pentru a o salva și e luat de regele Horificus pentru a fi bufon regal. Max este forțată să fugă împreună cu Kevyn, Simon și Millie pentru a putea lupta să-l salveze pe unchiul Budrick.
