这日刘勇借来一台最新式的DVD机，为讨好艾嘉先送到马家，恭请马大姐一家先睹为快，附带一盘日本恐怖电影《午夜凶铃》。结果全家人在极度紧张的气氛中看完了影片后，艾嘉吓得够呛，老王大说过瘾，马大姐埋怨刘勇不该借这种影片，害得她一夜没有睡好。第三天晚上，三人早早上床，再没人提看什么DVD，可谁也睡不着。窗外风雨交加，伴随着猫叫，树影晃动，邻居家的电话再一次响起，三人开始分析这“不寻常”的夜晚和这“不寻常”的声音，得出结论：邻居家已全体惨遭“毒手”。全家人的神经几至崩溃的边缘。天刚亮，马大姐就开始找派出所和街道反映情况，结果当然是一场误会，贻笑大方。
